Yoga Psychology: Understanding the Evolving Mind.

Wednesdays 7- 9pm, starting Sept. 15th, 2010.
Cost: $300 plus HST per 10-class semester  391 Ontario Street (Renaissance Yoga and Ayurveda)

Description:

At the heart of yoga psychology is a deep understanding of evolution. Material form, mental function and higher consciousness are all part of the same evolutionary process. To understand material evolution one has only to observe it. To come to understand the evolving mind however, one must gain a unique perspective that is, at once, external and internal.

In this 10 week course, we will discuss the nature and function of the mind in order to understand how it is we perceive the world and ourselves and how we may best work with the mind to gain insight into who we are.

acorn fund

The Acorn Fund was formed with a general intention of stimulating and experiencing our yoga community’s interest in sharing resources for shared philanthropic concerns.

Acorn Fund Grantee Profile: Yoga-educated and experienced applicants who are ready to take their contemplative life-work and self-healing into the context of social activism.

The Acorn Fund places priority on supporting projects that seek to demystify, legitimize, and naturalize yogic practice and thought in the public sphere. Community health, rehabilitation, employment and transition services, public education, continuing-education, youth and children’s services, environmental awareness and public space topics, for the elevation of marginalized demographics through an improved quality of life, exemplify possible key areas of focus.

yoga community toronto

Yoga Community Toronto — a member-based organization that is designed to collectively serve the needs of the local yoga community. Our aims are open-ended and will rise beyond any of the concrete benefits we offer, into areas of interaction that a sense of heightened community will foster on its own.

Yoga Community Toronto sees yoga as an art, a science, a language of penetrating inquiry, and a song of gratitude. It is in evolution through all ages and cultures, and we contribute to its vibrancy through shared knowledge and experience. Collaboration on the various levels in which yoga manifests, and across its many platforms and lineages is key to yoga’s continued and growing dynamism.

In the here-and-now, there’s much to collaborate on. Inter-lineage study, festival programming, attacking difficult issues through our roundtable groups, sharing experiences of both challenge and resolution in our support groups.
